Candace scheduled our return flight late so we could get a bit more time in Chiang Mai (and let me just say, she did an amazing job planning this whole trip!). We spent our last day going to a lot of handcraft places and learned a lot about how all the products were made…years of patience and a lot of skill!
Our first stop was at a Thai Silk center. It was fascinating to see the moths lay eggs, the larva, cocoons, and working the silk of the cocoons into silk fabric. What an art form. It was satisfying to have our kids say that they had no idea how much work went into making fabric for clothes.
We next stopped at a silver making workshop, then lacquer, then a HUGE jewelry store (would love to get some gems at some point while we’re here), and finished at seeing some handmade umbrellas get made.
We then checked out of our great hotel and had a fairly uneventful trip back home. We were (once again) surprised at how warm and humid Bangkok is after the cool days of Chiang Mai, but it was good to be back home. 3 cheers for a great trip!
