Aunt Janelle and Uncle Ryan returned from their week at Krabi, so I took off Friday and we made a long weekend trip to Ayutthaya and Khao Yai. It was a great weekend.
Ayutthaya is the ancient capital of Siam (aka Thailand) and has a lot of old ruins of the grand palace, temples, and the like. It was amazing to see how they built all of these massive structures with clay bricks…some of the ruins we saw were from the 1300s.
We caught a tuk-tuk and went to a HUGE Buddah, a tree grown around a Buddah, and another wat or two:
A funny thing about Thailand: Thais LOVE to take pictures with Falangs. They often just walk up and take your picture without asking. Janelle and Ryan got first-class treatment of this phenomenon. Check out the guy taking a picture with my 2nd boy…just walked right up, put his arm around him like they’d known each other for years. OK.
It was getting pretty hot, so we stopped for some coconut ice cream in the shade before continuing up to Khao Yai:
On our 2 hour drive to Khao Yai, we stopped at a local fruit stand to let Ryan try some durian fruit (smells like poop) and we grabbed some delicious mangos and pomelo (my favorite local fruit – a cross between grapefruit and orange…kinda).
Our evening and next day at Khao Yai were amazing, so I’ll make another post out of that…
