Gorgeous Tahiti

Day 4

We arrived early Sunday evening, which is weird, because we left late Monday morning from New Zealand.  Time travel is alive and well my friends.

Flying into the airport in Papeete is a treat.  You get an amazing view of Moorea (the take-my-breath-away island we’ll describe in the next post) and the coral reefs surrounding the islands.

We were greeted by Polynesian dancers and singers once we entered the terminal.  Tahitians know how to welcome passengers!  My mission President and Soeur Tefan picked us up at the airport.  It was SO good to see them again and be welcomed to their island.  The islanders have a tradition of bestowing fragrant flower necklaces upon arrival, and then sea shell necklaces when you leave.

They drove us to the Tahiti Temple housing where we would stay during our visit and we met up with several of my old mission companions.  It was wonderful to see them all again, their wives and children, and catch up.  I’m always impressed at how quickly we settle back into friendships after over a decade of not seeing one another.  Truly our relationships in this life are meant to go beyond the veil…

I was also pleased that my French wasn’t too horrible.  Only a few Thai words snuck in every now and then.  :-)

We got a good night’s sleep and had plans to meet up with Naea and Dayna Bennett the next morning to go to Moorea.  Another great day!
