I'm back in Houston, mostly permanently. I will return to Bangkok June 5 and spend about a week there with the family packing and moving out of our house, shutting down life (bank, work permit, etc.), and saying good-bye.
It's amazing how quickly the 2 years has gone. Now that I'm in Houston, starting my new job, and getting our house build going, our life in Thailand feels almost like a dream. It's true what is said, "Long days, short years." I'm glad we worked hard at enjoying our time there and seeing as much as we could - life's too short to not take full advantage of the adventures provided us. I will be forever grateful for the time we had overseas.
It's been fun to actually walk our property and see the lot get developed. In a week's time, they took down many of the trees, brought in over 200 trucks of fill dirt and removed as much of muddy soil that isn't fit for a foundation. Next steps are putting the foundation forms up and getting ready for concrete. Wow. Exciting to see actual work begin on our property after years of planning...
I'm frequently asked how I feel about leaving Thailand. I'm mostly OK with it now. Of course we're sad to say good-bye to our dear friends over there, but we are also ready to start our new lives back in Houston and enjoy living in America again. After the last 3 days here, I can say it's glorious to live in the USA.
