Settling In

I’ve been wanting to post over the last several weeks, but we’ve been genuinely too busy with daily life.  I guess that’s a good sign that we’re settling in!

Since the last post, we’ve spent a lot of time making the house “ours.”  Yesterday, we spent a chunk of the day hanging pictures and photos.  Wow does that make a difference in making a house a home!  Here’s a few pictures of how it’s looking:

Candace and the kids have been very busy with school starting, getting all the paperwork done, and signing up for activities.  Last Saturday, we went to an “activities fair” where all of the exPat activities had booths and you walked around and signed up for whatever interested you (scouts, soccer, gymnastics, swimming, track, yoga, service, charity work, etc).  Here’s what we filled our “cart” with while activity shopping:

  • Soccer (2 boys)
  • Cross country track
  • Gymnastics
  • Robotic Legos
  • Chess club
  • Piano lessons (3 kids)
  • Band (oldest is doing French horn)

We spent yesterday morning and the boys’ first soccer games.  On purpose, I did not sign up to be a coach again this year because work is so busy, but…..once I got there, no parents had any idea of what they were doing and I was quickly nominated to be the coach.  Oh well, we’ll fit it in and hopefully my youngest will have fond memories of his dad coaching him.  I really enjoyed watching our oldest’s game yesterday.  His team is made up of boys from all over (Asia, Africa, Europe, Australia and North America).  Several of those boys are amazing to watch.  Wow.:

We’ve been looking for some furniture since we got here as most of our furniture is from our college days.  We’ve had fun looking, trying out our basic Thai, and coming up with some designs on what we think we’d like!

Here’s a piece I saw that I just couldn’t help but laugh at.  Any takers?:

  3. Please say you bought that fantastic couch!
That's awesome about all of the cool activities your kids will get to do. Soccer and gymnastics start up this week (soccer=addie and gymnastics for both) and we're excited to get into the mix again!
Your house is looking great!!! And yes, putting pictures up is definitely what makes a house a home.
