We were thrilled to have my Dad come and visit this last week. We had a great time and it was wonderful to be able to share our life with family.
He arrived about 2am on Tuesday morning (why is it almost all flights into Bangkok arrive after 11:30pm??). Candace offered to go and pick him up so I could be half-coherent for my 5am wake-up to get to work. As I had work meetings later that night, I came home a bit early and we went to Koh Kret for a quick outing.
Koh Kret is only about 15 minutes from our house. It’s an island in the middle of the large Chao Phraya River with a large Buddhist temple, lots of shops, and – best of all – a 6-7 km bike path around the entire island. We rented bikes for all of us (except our youngest, he got to sit on the seat in front of me on my fancy bike) and really enjoyed the ride.
It’s a fun mix of twists and turns amongst shops, bridges, foot paths, and locals and then changes into a raised path across the island with great views of the rice fields, banana farms, and other more “rural” living.
The miracle of the day was having all of us ride for over an hour on this treacherous path and no one got hurt!
This video my Dad took is great at showing how crazy the bike ride was. I recommend watching the whole 1.5 minutes:
Great first day with Dad.
