The driving force for us to visit Cambodia was to visit Angkor Wat. As such, we woke up really early (4am) to meet our tour guide and driver (who both happen to be members of our church!) to get to the temple grounds before the hordes of people arrived. We arrived with plenty of time and got great seats for a good sunrise.
Our tour guide was fantastic and told us everything about the temple. It really was worth the trip. From the architecture, to the stories, to the 350K+ slaves it took to build in 37 years…
The carvings were amazing and all had a story to tell
This was the “echo” room – if you hit your chest, it sounded like a huge drum. Our daughter hit her chest a little too hard :-)
The “library” and some amazing carvings
We next went to the “4 head Buddha” temple. It was also amazing – with tons of amazing sculptures.
Our final temple was the “Tomb Raider” temple. This was probably my favorite. The trees were allowed to grow into it (and partially destroy it) and it was beautiful!
Yes, that’s a HUGE spider!
After the third temple, we were all pretty tired from our long day the previous day and an early morning. We went back to our hotel and relaxed at the pool and had a nice dinner nearby.
