Day 3: Hiking Dragon’s Back

Day 3 was Sunday, so we took to the hills to explore Hong Kong’s natural side.  Sure glad we did – what amazing views, nature, and workout!

We took the MTR (subway) from Mong Kok to the North island and got off at the last stop.  From there, we hiked up to a cemetery trying to find the beginning of the hiker’s path (the Internet site that Candace found was pretty vague on how to find it).

It was pretty warm and hiking up these steps was a real workout.

When we got to the top, the view was great.

We finally found the trail (after a few U-turns and climbing through some shrubs) and started up, up, up!  After about 60 minutes of hiking up, we found the beginning of Dragon’s Back trail…we were already pretty tired by this point!  We had only brought 6 bottles of water, so everyone went on rations until we got to the top-top.

The trail was beautiful with changing scenery every 30 minutes.  The kids did great.

When we broke out of the trees, the view was spectacular and we were welcomed by a great cool sea breeze.  Our youngest was pretty done by this point, so I carried him on my shoulders the last 100 meters.

This next picture shows you why it’s called Dragon’s Back at the top:

By the time we reached the end of the trail, everyone was ready to be done walking.  Our youngest quickly did what he excels at – falling asleep anywhere.  Sure love this little guy:

To finish the day, we tried a local restaurant recommended by a nice lady (“Rainbow”).  I loved it.  The kids?  Not so much…but at least they tried and (most) smiled anyway even though I knew they’d rather eat dirt.  Watching my daughter try to eat with one chopstick was great entertainment!

Great day!
